Ten years ago, when it put Suites Class on the Airbus A380, Singapore Airlines changed how first-class flying was done. Suites Class was a special class that was even better than First Class. But Middle Eastern and European airlines were very tough competitors, so in late 2017, Singapore’s flag carrier returned with a second version of A380 Suites that was even more luxurious and bigger.
We got to see them for ourselves during the 12-hour delivery flight from Toulouse to Singapore. So, let us show you what you can expect when you get on board.
The number of Suites has been cut in half compared to the original A380 fleet, so the cabin feels much bigger. Now, only six Suites have been moved to the front of the top deck. These luxury havens have three on each side and one in the middle.
The doors to the Suites do not go up to the sky, so you have some privacy, but not as much as in some competing products, like Emirates’ newest Boeing 777 first class suites. The little holes in the doors also take away some privacy.
The two Suites in front of the aisle on each side can be assembled to make a “double bed” Suite.
The new Suites plan has a big leather armchair that can be moved…
… and a separate bed that swings out and can be used as a traditional “fully flat” bed or a bed with a slight angle.
The bed is slightly shorter and a little bit bigger than the one in Etihad’s A380 First Class Apartments, which is 82 inches long and 26 inches wide. It is 76 inches long and 27 inches wide.
SQ makes the bed even more cozy by putting on nice sheets, a duvet, and big pillows.
The leather armchair is 21 inches wide and has a high back. It is very comfy to sit in. It can also be turned around so that it faces the TV, bed, or window.
A side table with a built-in table is next to the chair, along with a holder for the tablet seat/entertainment controls and a flower vase.
The table is very big and gives you a lot of room to work or eat.
The 32-inch TV is a touch-screen high-definition unit with the new KrisWorld entertainment system from the airline.
Each suite has two electric shuttered windows that can be opened and closed with the touch of a button. Under these windows, there are amenities, a makeup mirror, Bose noise-canceling headphones, and a place to put things. A Singapore Airlines spokesperson said that this room was made because rich customers did not want to put their expensive handbags on the floor!
You will also find most connectivity features in this console, like a headphone jack, AC and USB power ports, and even an HDMI port so you can stream your content to the TV. It also has a “near-field communications” panel that the airline will use for tap-to-buy purchases like in-flight Internet and duty-free shopping.
In the door panel, there is a personal closet where you can hang your clothes, store your bags, and find things like a blanket and shoes.
The suites at the front of the top deck of the A380 are in the best location. Not only are they the quietest seats on the plane, but they also have exclusive access to the big front two lavatories, one of which has been turned into a full bathroom with a separate vanity counter.
Even though there is not a shower on board, the bathrooms are more special than most because they are bigger and have fewer people using them.
The new Suites from Singapore Airlines embody their timeless style of understated luxury while elevating the comfort level to provide exceptional spaciousness. This enhancement, coupled with their renowned on-ground and in-flight service, undoubtedly positions these Suites as a leading choice.
