Etihad ensures comprehensive connectivity for passengers, catering to both brief messaging exchanges and extended browsing sessions.
Passengers can be divided into two categories: those who prefer to disconnect from their devices during flights, avoiding the distractions of notifications, and those who find it irresistible to browse their social media feeds. Etihad’s revamped WiFi service caters to both groups. The Gulf carrier has unveiled two new Wi-Fly packages that cater to different needs. One package is designed specifically for messaging apps like WhatsApp and WeChat, while the other offers unlimited internet access.
These new packages, available on Etihad’s twin aisle jets, are priced based on the duration of the flight. However, members of the Etihad Guest loyalty program can enjoy complimentary access to the Chat package, similar to the complimentary WiFi offering for Emirates Skywards members. It’s worth noting that the changes to the WiFi service apply only to Etihad’s twin aisle fleet, while the single aisle aircraft will continue to offer the current mobile connectivity service, which enables passengers to make calls, send text messages, and use data roaming.
Etihad’s new inflight WiFi packages are priced as follows:
For flights under 7 hours, the Chat package costs US$2.99 or is complimentary for Etihad Guest members, while the Surf package is priced at US$9.99. For flights over 7 hours, the Chat package is priced at US$4.99 or is free for Etihad Guest members, and the Surf package is available for US$19.99.
Comparatively, these prices align closely with Emirates, which charges between USD$2.99 and $5.99 for chat and between US$9.99 and $19.99 for surfing. Qatar Airways offers one hour of complimentary WiFi for Privilege Club members or a flat fee of US$10 for the entire flight.
Passengers traveling in Etihad’s luxurious first class suites, as well as those with Guest Platinum or Exclusive VIP status, can enjoy complimentary access to the Surf package. Business class guests, unfortunately, are not eligible for free access and must pay the standard fees, although Etihad Guest Gold cardholders receive a 25% discount.
