Airbus initially presented numerous innovative concepts for utilizing the generous space available on the A380 aircraft. However, only a select few airlines opted to exchange revenue-generating seats for a social lounge, allowing first and business class passengers to mingle while cruising at high altitudes. Qatar Airways recently joined the ranks of Emirates, Etihad, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Qantas in embracing this concept on the superjumbo aircraft.
Lounge of Qatar A380
Qatar Airways’ unique bar and lounge, characterized by its sleek and curved design, is located at the rear of the business class cabin on the upper deck of the A380 aircraft.
The expansive design features sofa-style seating and sophisticated lighting, creating an elegant ambiance within the bar. Situated just before a compact economy cabin of 56 seats, passengers in that section can catch intriguing glimpses through the curtain into the premium area, adding a touch of allure to their travel experience.
Emirates’ A380 bar
Emirates achieved a notable distinction by becoming the first airline operating the A380 to introduce a stand-up bar, where an attentive bartender ensures a continuous flow of refreshments, snacks, and engaging conversations.
The space located at the rear of the upper deck on Emirates’ A380 has become a popular spot for business travelers and frequent flyers, serving as a favored retreat to stretch their legs or enjoy a change of scenery during long flights.
Etihad’s A380 Lobby
Etihad has drawn inspiration from the realm of hotels for its Airbus A380 aircraft, naming the lounge area The Lobby.
Situated between the first and business class cabins, this meticulously serviced lounge and bar takes inspiration from the traditional Arabian concept of the Majlis, creating a welcoming space where guests can be received and enjoy entertainment.
Etihad’s distinctive approach envisions The Lobby as a space that provides the convivial atmosphere of a bar while maintaining a distinct appearance that does not resemble a conventional bar setting.
The amenities of the Etihad A380 Lobby encompass a semi-circular leather sofa, a marquetry table, and a 32-inch TV screen that allows passengers to enjoy live TV channels. While other airlines do not quite emulate the offerings of the Gulf trio, four airlines have designated a small space for more than just seating or stand-up refreshment areas.
