Up close with Lufthansa’s new ‘Allegris’ Business Class

When Lufthansa launches its brand-new Allegris business class in the coming months, selecting your seat will become a more intricate than just opting for a window or aisle position.

This German flag carrier will provide passengers with a remarkable range of options, offering up to seven variations of the new business class seat. These variations will be tailored to individual preferences, considering factors such as space and privacy.

All Allegris business class seats on Lufthansa flights will share some exceptional features. These include direct aisle access, Bluetooth audio connectivity to the 17-inch screen, wireless charging capabilities, a spacious bed measuring a minimum of 2 meters in length, individual seat heating and cooling options, and a specially designed ‘shoulder sink-in’ feature to enhance comfort for side sleepers.

Passengers will have full control over their Allegris business class seat and the inflight entertainment system using a conveniently placed tablet next to their seat. It’s important to note that the tablet will not be wireless, as it requires constant power to ensure uninterrupted functionality.

To ensure optimal comfort, each seat in Lufthansa’s Allegris business class is equipped with warming panels integrated into the cushions, akin to heated car seats. Additionally, cool air can be circulated from beneath the seat and through a vent mounted on the seat wall.

In an effort to create a more spacious and open ambiance, Lufthansa has decided not to install individual air vents on the overhead panels in the business class cabin. Moreover, the absence of luggage bins running along the cabin’s center further enhances the sense of space.

The introduction of the new Lufthansa Allegris business class seating will debut on fresh Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in the upcoming autumn season. Subsequently, it will also be featured on new Airbus A350s starting in 2024 and retrofitted on Boeing 747-8s, existing A350s, and Dreamliners. Eventually, the long-delayed Boeing 777-9 twinjet will also be equipped with this upgraded business class seating.

At the front of each business class cabin, four Business Class Suites will be positioned facing the bulkhead wall. Among these, the middle pair of suites can be combined to form a spacious double suite, catering to couples traveling together.

With a generous footprint ranging from 2.2 to 2.5 square meters, surpassing the standard business class offering, every Business Class Suite provides ample passenger space. These suites feature a spacious 2.2-meter flatbed, taller walls equipped with sliding doors, a personal wardrobe, and a compact minibar for added convenience. Additionally, travelers can enjoy an expansive 27-inch video screen, offering an immersive inflight entertainment experience.

The paired center seats in the final row of every business class cabin will be specifically designated as Business Class Double seats, appealing to couples seeking a shared space. These adjacent seats can be effortlessly transformed into a comfortable double berth using a fully-retractable center console. This feature allows couples to enjoy an intimate and cozy seating arrangement during their journey.

By utilizing the space beneath the elongated right-hand bench, which creates a separation from the aisle, the seat behind it can offer a spacious 2.2-meter bed. This innovative design taps into the extra under-bench space, allowing Lufthansa to cater to taller travelers by marketing it as the Business Class Extra Long Bed. Passengers can enjoy enhanced comfort and ample room to stretch out.

Seats adjacent to the window will be designated as Business Class Privacy seats, offering passengers an enhanced level of privacy during their flight. Meanwhile, the seats positioned along the aisle will be known as Business Class Classic, providing a comfortable and convenient option. The Business Class Classic seats will be priced as Lufthansa’s entry-level offering in the business class category.

In each business class cabin, the right-hand side seat at the rear can be transformed into the intuitively named Private Seat with Baby Bassinet. Replacing the pop-out panel on the side shelf with a bassinet mount ensures that the infant is positioned directly next to the parent, fostering closer proximity and easy access.

This design offers an advantage over conventional bulkhead bassinets, as it keeps the baby within reach and sight of the parent, providing enhanced comfort and peace of mind. Lufthansa’s Boeing 787-9 business class will have 28 seats, including four suites. On the Airbus A350, there will be two business-class cabins with 38 seats, featuring eight suites.
